Já mostrei como usar Máscara Líquida e hoje vou mostrar como usar crayon branco como máscara para trabalhos de pintura com aquarela.



O processo é parecido: usamos um pedaço de crayon e desenhamos/pintamos com ele as partes da pintura que queremos deixar brancas. Também podemos usar uma vela branca desde que realmente ela seja branca e não a cor acinzentada que normalmente as velas "brancas" tem.

Ás vezes é um pouco difícil ver onde passamos o crayon porque ele é branco e o papel também.

I have already shown how to use Liquid Mask and today I will show you how to use white crayon as a mask for watercolor painting.

The process is similar: we use a piece of crayon and we draw / paint with it the parts of the painting that we want to leave white. We can also use a white candle since it really is white and not the greyish color that normally "white" candles have.

Sometimes it's a bit difficult to see where we passed the crayon because it's white and the paper is also white.

Depois, aplicamos a aquarela e onde passamos o crayon fica branco.....mas na verdade é o branco do crayon e não do papel.

Acontece que o crayon, mais conhecido como "giz de cera", tem uma espécie de parafina em sua composição então a tinta desliza sobre o crayon, patinando, sem aderir porque essa parafina faz a tinta "escorregar". Portanto o crayon é diferente da máscara líquida, pois o branco do crayon pintou nosso papel, enquanto que a máscara líquida é uma película que após a pintura será retirada e teremos o papel puro, que poderá ser pintado se quisermos.

Then we apply the watercolor and the place where we passed the crayon continues being white ..... but in fact it is the white of the crayon and not the paper.

It turns out that the crayon, better known as "wax chalk", has a kind of paraffin in its composition so the paint slides over the crayon, skidding, without adhering because this paraffin causes the paint to "slip." So the crayon is different from the liquid mask, because the crayon has painted our paper, while the liquid mask is a film that after the painting will be removed and we will have the pure paper, which can be painted if we want to.

Existem lápis de cera também, com pontas mais finas que o crayon, melhores para trabalhos mais delicados e pequenos como esse das fotos, mas eu usei o giz crayon que tornou minha pintura imprecisa e rude.

There are crayons pencils too, with thinner tips than the crayon, better for more delicate and small parts like those in the photos, but I used the crayon which made my painting inaccurate and rude.

Podemos melhorar o resultado final com caneta Posca branca para atenuar falhas no crayon.

We can improve the final result with white Posca pen to ease crayon glitches.

E acentuar algumas partes com marcador  preto.

And accent some parts with black marker.

Mas o resultado é diferente!

Compare a foto acima com a foto abaixo: na de cima usei crayon e na de baixo usei máscara líquida. A de cima é imprecisa, rude, com alguma falhas porque não conseguir enxergar bem o branco do crayon, nos faz desenhar "ás cegas", além disso a ponta vai engrossando e levando a traços rudes, não há muita possibilidade de consertos em erros.



Na foto de baixo usei a máscara líquida com pincel fino e o fato da máscara ser azul me deu total liberdade pra ver o que estava fazendo, pra afinar ainda mais o traçado ou engrossa-lo, do jeito que eu quis fazer. Bem melhor, não é?



Apesar das diferenças dos resultados vale a pena usar crayon? Sim, especialmente se o desenho não for minucioso, delicado, e se for pra usar em poucas áreas. Com cuidado e prática podemos obter bons resultados também.

But the results are different!

Compare the photo above with the photo below: on the top one  I used crayon and on the bottom one  I used a liquid mask. The top one is imprecise, rude, with some flaws because I could not see the white of the crayon, it made me draw "blind", in addition the tip is thickening and leading to rude traces, there is not much possibility of repairing mistakes.

In the photo below I used the liquid mask with a fine brush and the fact that the mask was blue gave me total freedom to see what I was doing, to further refine the stroke or thicken it, the way I wanted to do. Much better, isn't it?

Despite differences in results is it worth to use crayon? Yes, especially if the drawing/painting is not meticulous, delicate, and if it is to be used in a few areas. With care and practice we can get good results too.
