A Viagem (158): Tear e Fachadas (The Trip: Loom and Facades)

Ontem fui visitar uma antiga fábrica de tecidos, daqueles de lã com que se fazem os kilts e outras roupas típicas escocesas. Na verdade é um tipo de museu que mostra o passo a passo desde que a lã chega em estado bruto até virar um tecido xadrez, ou tartã.

Yesterday I visited an old factory of fabrics,  those of wool with which the kilts and other typical Scottish clothes are made. In fact it is a kind of museum that shows step by step since the wool arrives in the raw state until turning a fabric plaid, or tartan.

As máquinas, a maior parte operada por pessoas, hoje em dia acredito que tenham sido substituídas por máquinas automáticas mas olhar pra todas aquelas cenas, onde bonecos representam as pessoas que trabalhavam confeccionando tudo, um trabalho artesanal mesmo, me faz pensar em como a vida era calma, como os dias parece que durava mais e como o mundo tinha uma caminhar mais lento.

The machines, mostly operated by people, nowadays I believe they have been replaced by automatic machines but look at all those scenes, where dolls represent the people who worked making everything, a craft work, makes me think of how life  was calm, as the days seemed to last longer and as the world had a slower pace.

Edinburgh é uma cidade que mantém o antigo, que conserva suas fachadas e se orgulha delas! Todo o Reino Unido é assim: orgulhoso de seu passado.  Então temos as ruas repletas de história, em cada loja, em cada construção com certeza há uma história a ser contada, algumas conhecidas outras não.

Edinburgh is a city that retains the old,  retains its facades and is proud of them! The whole UK is like this: proud of its past. So we have streets full of history, in every store, in every construction there is  surely a story to be told, some known other not.

Janelas nas esquinas das construções são comuns, aqui no Brasil, ao contrário, é difícil encontrar uma construção assim, por isso cada vez que vejo fico tentando imaginar como é por dentro, como fica a disposição dos móveis. E as janelas também são muito perto umas das outras, não sei se todos os cômodos tem janelas ou se cada edifício antigo tem apenas janelas frontais.

No Centro da Cidade, aqui no Rio, existem alguns edifícios antigos assim e as janelas são todas pra frente, e únicas. São detalhes de construções que não vemos mais. A diferença é que em muitos países o antigo é cultivado, preservado.... e aqui no Rio nem sempre, uma pena.

Windows in the corners of buildings are common, here in Brazil, on the contrary, it is difficult to find such a construction, so every time I see one I try to imagine how it is inside, how is the arrangement of furniture. And the windows are also very close to each other, do not know if every room has windows or if each old building has only front windows.

In the City Center, here in Rio, there are some old buildings like this and the windows are all forward, and unique. These are details of buildings that we do not see anymore. The difference is that in many countries the old is cultivated, preserved .... and here in Rio it is not always, a shame.

Sketchbook: O que é? Por que ter um? (Sketchbook: What is it? Why having one?) - VIDEO

Muita gente tem dúvidas sobre o que exatamente é um Sketchbook: "É só pra desenho? Posso pintar nele? É pra fazer apenas rascunho? Posso usar aquarela? Preciso ter quantos sketchbooks?"...e assim vai, são muitas dúvidas.

 A lot of people have doubts about exactly what a Sketchbook is: "Is it just for drawing? Can I paint on it? Is it just to make a sketch? Can I use watercolor? How many sketchbooks do I have to have?" ... and so it goes, lots of doubts.

Você pode ter apenas um sketchbook, ou vários como eu tenho. O tamanho também pode ser o que você quiser, mas não escolha um sketchbook com um milhão de folhas.....to brincando!...mas é sério, escolha um sketchbook com, por exemplo, 48 folhas ou até um pouco mais. Quando temos um sketchbook com 100 folhas, por exemplo, pode ser uma coisa cansativa, em vez de ser prazeiroso desenhar e pintar nele torna-se um fardo porque demora muito pra ele acabar e a sensação de ver um sketchbook completo é muito boa, é indescrítivel! 



Então, sendo você iniciante ou já com boa experiência, experimente sketchbooks com menos folhas porque assim você se sentirá sempre renovado, verá seu sketchbook finalizado em menos tempo, ficará mais feliz e isso vai te incentivar a desenhar e pintar cada vez mais.

You can have only one sketchbook, or several as I do. The size can also be what you want, but do not choose a sketchbook with a million sheets ..... just kidding! ... but seriously, choose a sketchbook with, for example, 48 sheets or even a little more . When we have a sketchbook with 100 sheets, for example, it can be a tiring thing, instead of being pleasant to draw and paint in it, it becomes a burden because it takes a lot for it to end and the sensation of seeing a complete sketchbook is very good, it is indescribable!



So, whether you are a beginner or already have good experience, try sketchbooks with fewer sheets because you will always feel refreshed, you will see your sketchbook finalized in less time, you will be happier and this will encourage you to draw and paint more and more.

A escolha da gramatura do papel, pra mim, é o principal a ser observado num sketchbook na hora de comprar um. Você vai desenhar com lápis, ou prefere marcador permanente, ou serão canetas a álcool? Além de desenhar também vai pintar? Qual tipo de tinta vai usar? Guache? Lápis de cor? Aquarela? Tudo isso junto?

The choice of paper weight for me is the main thing to look at in a sketchbook when it comes to buying one. Are you going to draw with pencils, or do you prefer permanent markers, or will it be alcohol pens? Besides drawing, will you also paint? What kind of paint will you use? Gouache? Colored pencils? Watercolor? All this together?
