Hello, lovely people!
Yes, I disappeared for almost two months and I didn't even tell you, did I? But it was all very fast: from the decision to travel, to buying the tickets, to the trip itself, to arriving at the final destination, which was Portugal... I couldn't even think straight and organize my ideas!!! 😕
So, I apologize for my absence and for not coming here earlier to tell you what was going on.
I had to accompany my husband on this trip and he, in turn, also had doubts about whether or not he was going to travel and when he made the decision we had to race against time because we wanted to be back before Christmas.
We spent almost two months in Portugal, specifically in Porto, and this time we didn't go sightseeing. So as not to say that it was strictly a work trip, we managed to go to Valença, in the north of Portugal, to Fátima and finally to Vigo, in Spain. The rest of the time we stayed in Porto, with him working and me accompanying him.
I also had the opportunity to give a Bookbinding Workshop in the town of Matosinhos, very close to Porto, where I teached how to make a handmade book with a Christmas theme - it was a magnificent experience!
The trip both out and back was great from the moment we got on the TAP plane, very comfortable, but on the way back to Rio the delay of almost 12 hours was very tiring, but this is common when traveling by TAP.
We had dinner on the plane, with a choice of three menus, wine and other drinks but what really attracks me about this type of airline ticket is the fact that we can actually lie down without feeling like a lemon being squeezed, since the seat can be tilted to 180º.

Pois é, sumi um pouco por quase 2 meses e nem avisei, né? Mas foi tudo muito rápido: da decisão de viajar, da compra de passagens, da viagem em si, da chegada ao destino final que foi Portugal... nem consegui pensar direito e organizar minhas ideias!! 😕
Então, peço mil desculpas pela ausência e por não ter vindo aqui antes contar o que estava acontecendo.
Precisei acompanhar meu marido nessa viagem e ele, por sua vez, também tinha dúvidas se ia ou não viajar e quando tomou a decisão precisamos correr contra o tempo porque queríamos estar de volta antes do Natal.
Foram quase 2 meses em Portugal, especificamente no Porto, e desta vez não foi pra fazer turismo. Pra não dizer que foi uma viagem estritamente de trabalho, conseguimos ir a Valença, no norte de Portugal, a Fátima e por último a Vigo, na Espanha. O resto do tempo ficamos no Porto, ele trabalhando e eu o acompanhando.
Também tive a oportunidade de dar um Workshop de Encadernação Artesanal na cidade de Matosinhos, bem perto do Porto, onde mostrei como fazer um livro artesanal com tema natalino, foi uma experiência magnífica!
A viagem tanto de ida quanto de volta foi ótima a partir do momento que entramos no avião da TAP, bem confortável, mas na vinda aqui pro Rio o atraso de quase 12 horas foi bem cansativo, mas isso é comum acontecer quando se viaja pela TAP.
Jantamos no avião, com escolha de 3 cardápios, vinho e outras bebidas á vontade. Mas o que me atrai mesmo neste tipo de passagem aérea é o fato de podermos realmente deitar sem se sentir um limão sendo espremido, já que o assento pode ficar a 180º.

Eating in Portugal is always an event! There are so many restaurants and patisseries, it's hard to choose a place and when you do, the waiter comes over with the menu to make it difficult to choose again; some of the food is really good, you want to eat it all and when you get to the desserts, the decision is very complicated.
Now imagine all this at the most beautiful time of the year, Christmas! It seems that the sweets are even better, more colorful, more delicious, the cold climate (for me, who lives in a hot city, it's divine), the streets decorated and crowded with people, tourists from all over the world.....ah, how I miss it there!
Of all the fruits that Portugal has, the ones I like the most are chestnuts: raw, roasted, boiled, I like them any way!
I also love cherries, but at Christmas there are no cherries in Portugal...oddly enough, we have cherries here in Rio, from Chile, and they're delicious.
E o que dizer de uma viagem que não foi turística? Poucas fotos de lugares e muitas de comida!😂
Comer em Portugal é sempre um acontecimento! Muitos restaurantes e confeitarias, difícil escolher o lugar e quando escolhemos lá vem o garçom com o cardápio pra dificultar novamente uma escolha; algumas comidas são realmente ótimas, dá vontade de comer todas e quando se chega na parte das sobremesas a decisão complica bastante.
Agora, imagine tudo isso na época mais bonita do ano, a natalina! Parece que os doces ficam ainda melhores, mais coloridos, mais gostosos, o clima frio (pra mim que moro numa cidade quente é divino), as ruas enfeitadas e apinhadas de gente, de turistas de todo mundo.....ah, que saudades eu tenho de lá!
De todos os frutos que Portugal tem, os que mais gosto são as castanhas: cruas, assadas, cozidas, gosto delas de todo jeito!
Também amo cerejas mas no Natal não há cerejas em Portugal...por incrível que pareça temos cerejas aqui no Rio, vindas do Chile, e são deliciosas.
I also like the famous Portuguese sardines but it seems that this year we didn't have any luck, they were crumbly, strange... we only ate them on 3 occasions but then gave up because they really weren't good.
Também gosto das famosas sardinhas portuguesas mas parece que neste ano não demos sorte, estavam esfarinhadas, estranhas...comemos apenas em 3 oportunidades mas depois desistimos porque realmente não estavam boas.
These dumplings are made from Portuguese sausages with chicken meat, the "alheiras"; delicious in several restaurants but I think the best ones are made by the “Encaixados” restaurant at 14 Conde de Vizela Street, just behind the Clérigos Tower.
Estes bolinhos são de embutidos portugueses feitos com carne de frangos, as alheiras; deliciosos em vários restaurantes mas acho que os melhores são feitos pelo restaurante "Encaixados" que fica na Rua Conde de Vizela 14, logo atrás da Torre dos Clérigos.
Nesse restaurante a comida é "gourmet", e os aperitivos também, como estes bolinhos de bacalhau.
At this restaurant, the food is "gourmet" and so are the appetizers, like these codfish cakes.
Another restaurant I like a lot is “Escondidinho” in the center of Porto, at 144 Passos Manuel Street, with traditional Portuguese dishes including the crockery and the atmosphere itself. It got two Michelin stars at once, and deservedly so.
Outro restaurante que gosto bastante é o "Escondidinho" no centro do Porto, á Rua de Passos Manuel 144, com pratos tradicionais portugueses incluindo louças e o ambiente em si. Tem 2 estrelas Michelin adquiridas de uma só vez, e merecidas.
But for those who want more affordable, simpler restaurants but with plenty of typical dishes, they can try one of the hundreds of tascas (taverns) and for a fixed and very affordable price can opt for the menu of the day which usually comes with a basket of bread, olives and pâtés, soup, the dish of the day which can be meat, chicken or fish, dessert and coffee!
Prices range from 6 to 12 euros per person and it's worth it!
Mas pra quem quer restaurantes mais em conta, mais simples, mas com fartura e pratos típicos, pode experimentar uma das centenas de tascas (tabernas) e por um preço fixo e bem acessível pode optar pelo menu do dia que normalmente vem com cesta de pães, azeitonas e patês, sopa, prato do dia que pode ser carne, frango ou peixe, sobremesa e café! Os preços variam de 6 a 12 Euros por pessoa e vale a pena!
Sweets are sweets! It takes a lot of effort to find one that isn't good in Portugal!😄
If you go to Porto, you can try the traditional Cafeteria Majestic, with its Belle Époque décor, mirrors, chandeliers, wooden interior and antique marble-topped tables. What did I eat there? Christmas French toast!

Achar um que não seja bom, em Portugal, é preciso muito esforço!😄Quem vai ao Porto pode experimentar a tradicional Cafeteria Majestic, com sua decoração da Belle Époque, seus espelhos, candelabros, interior todos em madeira e mesinhas com tampo em mármore antigo. O que eu comi lá? Rabanadas!
I think this post is just to talk about sweets, so the also traditional Pastéis de Natas are present in every shop window, in every café and restaurant and I simply LOVE IT!!!
Acho que este post é só pra falar de doces mesmo, então os também tradicionais Pastéis de Natas estão presentes em todas as vitrines, em todas as cafeterias e restaurantes e eu simplesmemte ADORO!!
